Kumud Kokal, head of Business Systems at Airbnb, will discuss the company's move to Workday as a way to support its rapid growth. In just eight years, Airbnb has grown to become the world's leading community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world. It operates in 191 countries with more than 2 million unique listings. Airbnb went live on Workday Human Capital Management in 2013, Workday Time Tracking and Workday Payroll in 2014, and Workday Financial Management and Workday Procurement in 2015.
Care.com—Dan Giurleo, Financial Systems Consultant
Dan Giurleo, financial systems consultant at Care.com, will discuss how Workday helps put data in the hands of business users, allows flexibility for continued change, and provides the team with new levels of operational data. Care.com (NYSE: CRCM), with an annual revenue of $138 million (2015), is an online marketplace that matches its 19.5 million members in 16 countries to the care they need. Care.com went live on Workday Human Capital Management and Workday Time Tracking in 2014 and Workday Financial Management and Workday Expenses in 2015.
City and County of Denver—Beth Machann, Controller
With over 13,000 employees and supporting 650,000 citizens, City and County of Denver is deploying the full suite of Workday applications. Beth Machann will discuss the challenges the city faces and how it will use Workday to streamline business processes, improve internal controls, engage employees, and create long-term sustainable opportunities. The City and County of Denver plans to go live on Workday Human Capital Management and Workday Payroll in January 2017 and on Workday Financial Management, Workday Procurement, Workday Grants Management, and Workday Projects in June 2017.
CityMD—Lou Salamone, CFO
Lou Salamone, CFO at CityMD, will discuss how CityMD used Workday to help meet the demands of its hyper-growth urgent care center business—expanding from four locations in 2013 to more than 55 today, with nearly 2,000 employees. With the full suite of Workday applications, CityMD can keep the focus on its patients, rather than worry about its back-office systems. CityMD went live on Workday Financial Management, Workday Human Capital Management, Workday Procurement, and Workday Expenses in 2015, and will go live on Workday Payroll in September of 2016.
Convergys—Jeni Fitzpatrick, SVP Human Resources
Jeni Fitzpatrick will share how Convergys (NASDAQ: CVG), a global leader in outsourced, integrated customer care solutions, is leveraging Workday to enhance its employee experience and provide leaders with visibility into their global workforce. Fitzpatrick will discuss the company’s approach to going live on Workday Human Capital Management and Workday Recruiting with 130,000 employees across 31 countries and with only one year to do it. Convergys generates more than $2.9 billion in revenues and is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio.
J.B. Hunt—Riley Shearin, VP of IT
Riley Shearin of J.B. Hunt, one of the largest transportation logistics companies in North America, will discuss the value his company has experienced through a unified suite of Workday applications. J.B. Hunt (NASDAQ: JBHT) is a Fortune 500 company with more than $6.1 billion in annual revenue (2015), almost 20,000 employees, and customers that include many other Fortune 500 companies. J.B. Hunt went live on Workday Human Capital Management and Workday Payroll in 2014; Workday Financial Management, Workday Procurement, and Workday Expenses in January 2016; and will go live on Workday Recruiting in July 2016.
Whole Foods Market—Amy Green, Director of Benefits and Business Processes
Amy Green, director of Benefits and Business Processes, will share how Whole Foods Market (NASDAQ: WFM), the world’s leader in natural and organic foods, is leveraging Workday to enable growth and deliver a great experience for its workforce. She will discuss Whole Foods’ journey, which includes selecting, deploying, and realizing value from Workday Human Capital Management and Workday Payroll. Whole Foods employs more than 90,000 employees across 450 stores in North America and the UK and is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
Abbott Laboratories—Patrick Lalor, Divisional Vice President Global HR Service Centers & HR IT Solutions
Patrick Lalor will share how Abbott Laboratories (NASDAQ: ABT), a globally diversified healthcare company, is leveraging Workday for greater visibility into its global workforce after spinning off its proprietary pharmaceutical arm and separating into two Fortune 200 companies in 2013. Lalor will detail Abbott’s journey from selecting and deploying Workday Human Capital Management and Workday Recruiting to realizing quantifiable business results and cost savings. Abbott has 75,000 workers in 95 countries and is headquartered in Abbott Park, Illinois.
Arbella Insurance—Matt Postulka, Director of Application Development and Architecture
Matt Postulka, director of Application Development and Architecture at Arbella Insurance, will highlight how the organization transitioned from Excel linkers to Workday thinkers using Workday's full suite of applications. As one of New England's premier car, home, and business insurers, Arbella has annual revenue of more than $800 million (2015) and more than 1,000 employees. Arbella went live on Workday Financial Management, Workday Human Capital Management, Workday Procurement, Workday Expenses, Workday Time Tracking, and Workday Payroll in January 2015.
Bank of America—Bill Onisick, VP, HR Projects and Shared Services
Bill Onisick will share how Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) is leveraging Workday to create competitive advantage through "real-time" talent management and an employee experience that matches that of its customers. Onisick will discuss the company’s transformation journey from business case and voice of the employee to benefit realization using Workday Human Capital Management, Workday Payroll, Workday Recruiting, and Workday Time Tracking applications. Bank of America is one of the largest banks in the U.S. and globally.
Christiana Care Health System—Rob McMurray, VP and Controller
Rob McMurray, VP and controller at Christiana Care Health System, will share his organization’s experience with Workday Human Capital Management and its in-progress deployment of Workday Financial Management. He will discuss the value Christiana Care has experienced with Workday, the benefits it anticipates from having a unified system, and how it will achieve greater operational transparency and streamlined operations. With more than 11,100 employees, Christiana Care is the largest private employer in Delaware, with over 1,100 patient beds and $1.6 billion in revenue.
Loblaw Companies Limited—Basil Rowe, SVP of Total Rewards
Come hear how Canada’s food and pharmacy leader, Loblaw Companies Limited (TSE: L), is leveraging Workday to go from 5,000 employees to 190,000 employees due to the acquisition of Shoppers Drug Mart, Canada’s largest retail acquisition. Rowe will discuss Loblaw’s journey from selecting Workday to going live on Workday Human Capital Management and Workday Payroll in the U.S. and Canada. Loblaw Companies Limited operates more than 2,000 stores under more than 20 banners, generates over $40 billion in revenues, and is headquartered in Brampton, Canada.
Louisiana State University (LSU)—Cynthia Hadden, Deputy CIO
Cynthia Hadden, deputy CIO at Louisiana State University and project deployment strategist, will discuss LSU’s experience deploying Workday on multiple campuses, including its flagship campus in Baton Rouge, the Ag Center, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, LSU-A, LSU-E, and LSU-S. Hadden will describe previous challenges facing LSU, why Workday’s model positioned LSU to achieve its goals, and what it’s like to always be up to date. LSU is live on Workday Financial Management and Workday Human Capital Management.
Netflix—Riaan du Preez, Director of HR/Finance Applications
Riaan du Preez, director of HR/Financial Applications at Netflix, will share how the company consolidated 11 systems into one unified suite of applications with Workday. Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) is a Fortune 500 company and the world's leading internet television network with more than 81 million streaming members in upwards of 190 countries. Netflix went live on Workday Human Capital Management and Workday Expenses in 2012, and Workday Financial Management, Workday Procurement, Workday Time Tracking, and Workday Payroll in 2014.
Workday Rising 2016 is taking place at McCormick Place West in the great city of Chicago. We’ve negotiated great rates for you at our official conference hotels. Note: You will only receive the negotiated rates by booking through our online registration tool. Book your hotel as soon as you’ve registered, since rates are only guaranteed through September 6, 2016.

Major airlines provide air travel into both Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Chicago Midway (MDW) airports. Cab service is available for transportation to area hotels, and daily shuttle service will be provided from the hotels to McCormick Place West.

Guests are not admitted to any function or public area of the conference. This includes hosted meals, keynotes, breakout sessions, and the Innovation Exchange Expo. You may work with your hotel concierge service to book activities during the day for your guest.
We invite a select number of qualified prospective customers to our conference so they can learn about Workday from our customers and sponsoring partners and get a sneak peek into what being part of the community is all about.
The prospective customer program will take place Monday afternoon through midday Wednesday (September 26–28). On Monday, prospective customers will attend Customer Reference Conversations, Workday Rising Kickoff Keynote, and the Welcome Reception in the Innovation Exchange Expo. On Tuesday, prospective customers will attend the Workday Executive Keynote followed by sessions on a variety of topics and a Prospective Customer Reception. On Wednesday, prospective customers will attend the Workday Customer Keynote and additional sessions. The prospective customer program concludes after lunch on Wednesday.
All registration cancellations must be received in writing. Email the prospective customer team to receive a refund, minus a $150 processing fee.
You may log in to My Account at any time to make changes to your registration or hotel information.
If you are unable to attend the conference, you may transfer your registration to another person. Email the prospective customer team with the names, titles, and email addresses of both the original and substitute registrants by 12:00 p.m. (PT) on September 12, 2016. Substitutions may not be granted after this date. Credits are not issued for future Workday Rising conferences.
Workday has negotiated exceptional rates at our collection of official conference hotels—you'll receive big savings during a peak travel season for this popular destination city. All discounted hotel rates exclude tax (currently 17.4 percent) but include complimentary in-room internet access. Discounted hotel rates for Workday Rising attendees are guaranteed through September 6, 2016, based on hotel availability.
No. The Workday Rising Team will not arrange hotel reservations for you. You can book your accommodations through the online tool when you register or by logging in to My Account after you have registered. We can only ensure room availability and rates for rooms booked through the online tool by September 6. Please do not contact the hotel directly. If you have questions, email the Workday Rising team.
Yes. To add a hotel reservation, go to My Account and select Book My Hotel.
To make changes to your hotel reservation, go to My Account, then select Edit My Hotel Reservation. Hotel cancellations must be made five (5) days prior to the scheduled arrival date to avoid a penalty equal to one night (including tax). Cancellation or change of hotel reservations is the sole responsibility of the attendee. Please do not contact the hotel directly. If you have questions, email the Workday Rising team.
Workday Rising hotel rates are guaranteed through September 6, based on hotel availability. Hotels are offered on a real-time inventory system, so only available rooms will be listed during your booking process. After September 6, rates and room availability will be determined by each hotel.
If you do not check in on your scheduled arrival date, the hotel will cancel your entire reservation and can opt not to reinstate your reservation, even if you arrive the next day. You will also be charged a penalty equal to one night (including tax), regardless of the hotel opting to reinstate your reservation or not. If you think you will not be able to check in on your scheduled arrival date, email the Workday Rising team or call (866) 254-9187 (U.S. and Canada) or (650) 416-8874 (international).
In order to take advantage of the Workday Rising discounted room rates, you must be fully registered for the conference.
Although the hotels will do their best to accommodate all special requests, they unfortunately are not guaranteed.

Major airlines provide air travel into both Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Chicago Midway (MDW) airports, which are 23 miles and 11.5 miles from McCormick Place West, respectively. Cab service is available for transportation to hotels and McCormick Place West. Cancellation or change of travel reservations is the sole responsibility of the attendee.
Transportation will not be provided to or from the airports. Cab rates from the airport to McCormick Place West average $35 before fees and tip.
Yes, shuttles will be provided between official conference hotels and McCormick Place West. If you choose to stay at a hotel that’s not one of the listed conference hotels, you will need to arrange your own transportation.
Average September weather in Chicago ranges from daytime highs between 60°F and 70°F; expect evening temperatures of 50°F or so. Bring layers of clothing to accommodate warmer days and cooler evenings.
The dress code for Workday Rising is business casual. We do not host any formal business or social networking functions. While we do our best to control the temperature in session rooms, we recommend you bring a removable layer for your comfort.
