GIVING CHALLENGE
Citizens of the Cloud: Rise Up for Health
At Workday, we believe healthy communities are important for business success—ours and yours. In addition to the Workday community that builds and uses forward-thinking software, Workday supports our other communities by making environmentally sound business choices (motivated by our Green Team), supporting causes important to our employees and customers (inspired by our Giving Program), and offering opportunities for employees to better manage their personal and family health (arranged by our Workday Wellness team).
At Workday Rising 2011, we’re taking Workday’s commitment to social responsibility a step further and integrating all of our community commitments into our conference program—with your support and participation, of course. Here’s how:
Thinking Green
Stop by the Rise Up for Health booth and join the Workday Green Team to learn more about Workday′s “organic” Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
Throughout the conference, you’ll also see a number of initiatives that help us reduce waste and improve the health of our environment. With the assistance of our LEED-certified hotel and conference center, here are a few things that help make Workday Rising an environmentally friendly conference:
- Using water coolers and reusable water bottles instead of disposable plastic water bottles
- Providing recycle bins throughout the conference
- Replacing expensive and single-use signs with instructional monitors
- Printing the event program on recycled paper
- Offering the onsite guide as a mobile app
- Posting presentations on the Workday Community (no handouts)
Consider offsetting the carbon emissions generated from your travel to Las Vegas by purchasing carbon offsets. It's less expensive than you think and the funds are invested in renewable energy programs.
The following websites help individuals offset their carbon footprint, with easy to use carbon calculators for air travel or rental cars:
Rising Wellness
As professionals, we all know the benefits a healthy workforce can bring to an organization—productivity, less absenteeism, reduced healthcare expenses, and happier employees. At Workday Rising, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to focus on your personal wellness by balancing the intensity of the conference with some physical activities and other healthy choices. Some examples:
- Morning runs lead by lululemon, Workday customer #150
- Sunrise yoga classes lead by lululemon, Workday customer #150
- Fruit stations
- Healthy breakfasts
- Massage chairs
- And lots more…
Giving Back
Here’s the fun—and rewarding—part: For every wellness or sustainable activity in which you engage, you’ll receive a token (or sometimes two or three) that you’ll deposit in collection jars. If 5,000 tokens are collected throughout the conference (roughly five per person), Workday will make a $10,000 donation to the American Heart Association on behalf of Workday Rising attendees.
So, with a little personal attention, a little sweat, and a lot of fun, you can contribute to both your own well being and the fight against heart disease and stroke. Be sure to bring your sneakers!
